Pendant son séjour il a donné un atelier de reliure aux membres d'imago et deux groupes d'étudiants en arts visuels de l'Université de Moncton. Ils ont conçu un livre en collectivité et chacun des participants en reçoivent un exemplaire.

Pudy Tong en résidence à Imago

Un enthousiaste de l'actualité depuis sa jeunesse, Pudy Tong examine la politique et la poétique de la machine journalistique. Le projet de Tong s'insère dans sa recherche continue qui emprunte du trope cinématographique du journal pivotant “spinning newspaper”. À travers des couches surimprimées en rotation, il examine certains détails d'images de conférences de presse. Tong a une maîtrise en arts visuels du Nova Scotia College of Art and Design à Halifax. Il sera en résidence à l’atelier d’estampe Imago du 13 au 26 novembre et donnera une présentation de son travail mercredi le 23 novembre à 17h30 à Imago. Toutes les présentations sont entrée libre et ouvertes à tous.

A news junkie from an early age, Pudy Tong's work is engendered by the poetics and politics of the journalistic engine. The project to be undertaken at Imago will be an extension of an ongoing project that borrows from the cinematic trope of the spinning newspaper, using over-printing and rotating as the means to examine particular details in press conference images. Earlier this year, Tong completed a group commission project entitled LEFT administered by Trinity Square Video (Toronto). His work has been exhibited across Canada and abroad at venues including Centre for Art Tapes (Halifax), Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art (Kelowna) and Sydney College of the Arts (Sydney, Australia). Tong holds an MFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University (Halifax).

Tong will be working at Imago from November 13 until November 26 and will give a talk at Imago on Wednesday November 23 at 5h30. All talks are free and open to the public.

Mitch Mitchell en résidence

Mitchell est un artiste estampier interdisciplinaire basé à Halifax. Son travail récent examine des notions de nature éphémere, synthétic et sublime et leur relation avec le corps humain et l’environnement.

Il travaille principalement en photogravure et en lithography en incorporant l’image digital. Sa recherche pivote sur la beauté périlleuse issu du développement et l’effondrement du paysage.

Mitch Mitchell is an interdisciplinary print artist working in Halifax, NS. His current bodies of work explores the ephemeral, synthetic and sublime nature(s) coexisting between the relationship of the human body and the surrounding contemporary environment. His 2d works employ a combination of photogravure and lithography blending traditional techniques with new digital image creation and matrix integration. His works focus on the dangerous beauty inherent in the mass development and erasure of landscape.

Notre campagne de financement annuelle, Art en Boîte, est maintenant terminée. Le conseil d'administration tient à remercier les bénévoles qui ont donner de leur temps pendant la soirée et les artistes participants qui à chaque année font preuve d'une grande générosité. Cette année ont a amassé 5542$ qui ira envers l'achat d'un nouveau tiroir à papier.

Our board of directors wishes to thank all our volunteers and the donating artists who make our annual fundraiser, Art en Boîte, a success. We raised 5542$ dollars which will go to the purchase of a much needed flat file system for our members.

Jardins communautaires

La production de nourriture par l’entremise de jardins communautaires urbains n’est pas un nouveau concept. Plusieurs villes canadiennes ont déjà établi des politiques à cet égard. De nombreux bienfaits sont associés aux jardins communautaires: une production alimentaire locale, économe et durable, un enrichissement des communautés, un excellent outil éducationnel, l’embellissement du paysage, une meilleure santé grâce à la nourriture fraîche et à l’activité physique et un surplus de nourriture pouvant être donnée aux soupes populaires.

La ville de Moncton devrait, avec l’aide de groupes communautaires, appuyer et promouvoir des jardins communautaires. La ville pourrait mettre à la disposition de groupes communautaires des terres libres adéquates, du compost de qualité et un accès à de l’eau et des remises.

Community gardens

Food production in urban community gardening is not a new concept. Many Canadian cities already have policies regarding community gardens. There are many benefits associated with these types of gardens: local, sustainable and economical food production, community development, excellent educational tool, more green spaces, health benefits through fresh food and physical activity and donations of surplus to soup kitchens.

The city of Moncton should, in conjunction with community groups, support and promote community gardens. The city could provide adequate sites on free land, quality compost and access to water and sheds.

Le projet de Jeff Arsenault nous propose une rue pédestre/cyclable au coeur du centre-ville. Arsenault écrit:

Nearly every street in downtown Moncton is designed for motor vehicle traffic. Our city's core is unfriendly to the people who live and work there. The least we can do is dedicate one full avenue for pedestrians and one for bicycles, creating livable streets.

Lutz Street will become a pedestrian-only surface. High-density housing will be encouraged with strict design guidelines enforced, including (but not limited to) architectural merit, sustainability and quality of materials, energy efficiency, minimum window areas, and allowances for bicycle storage. Vehicle parking will not be a requirement, but a balanced approach will be encouraged, especially car-sharing arrangements. Street-level first floors will be reserved for small businesses including restaurants and shops. Franchises or "chain" restaurants and stores will not be allowed within a defined perimeter around the livable streets. This will offer the opportunity for local entrepreneurs to flourish without the risk of being pushed out by a large corporation simply because chains and franchises have the will to take over more territory and eliminate smaller competition.

A bridge for pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be built at the northern end of the livable streets, connecting them to the intersection of the Université de Moncton campus and the Sunny Brae neighbourhood. This will provide easier access to downtown for a large portion of Moncton's population base, including the neighbourhoods further up McLaughlin and Elmood Drive. Currently, residents of those areas must follow hostile roadways, especially in the winter months,to make their way on foot or by pedal to the downtown core.

Robinson Street will become a bicycle-only surface. Bike tunnels will be constructed under Mountain Road, St. George Street, Victoria Street, Queen Street and the train tracks, as well as Main Street. Side streets such as Railway, Park and Austin will end at Robinson. These provisions, along with the connector bridge over Wheeler Boulevard, will allow for an uninterrupted flow of bicycle traffic through the most ideal downtown corridor, where all major intersecting roads can easily add bike lanes to connect to this route.

Both of these dedicated surfaces will help ensure that future development of downtown Moncton will continue in a sustainable way. With the livable streets naturally leading there, the Petitcodiac river waterfront, which has been neglected for so long, will become prime redevelopment land. The only way to have a lively downtown is to make is so that people are able to live, work, shop and play all within walking distance. Restricting it to only one or two of those activities and catering to motor vehicle traffic as a priority essentially assures the demise of the downtown, as history has proven in so many other cities.

A new direction for beautification and sustainability will be pursued, by planting only edible plants as well as fruit-bearing trees and shrubs throughout the area. These will be organically grown, and the food produced will be available to users of the livable streets.

Transforming these two avenues from their current main use as motor vehicle corridors will offer the opportunity to improve vehicle traffic flow as well. The current throughways are a mishmash of improperly laid out "main" arteries that start and end abruptly, causing incredible bottlenecks even with very little actual traffic. Realigning motor vehicle traffic so that the parallel Archibald and Botsford streets actually function as traffic corridors will offer an

improved flow to and from the downtown area, so that traffic jams only occur when there are actually too many vehicles.

These may seem like ambitious and costly projects, but when you imagine the cost of building and servicing sprawl at the rate it is happening today and compare that to the per person cost of servicing this sustainable community, there is no question that it is a viable

investment.

The beautiful point of this entire exercise is that those who chose not to partake in the madness of wasting precious hours of their lives in a motor vehicle waiting for the light to turn will have a real option: a walkable, sustainable, community-oriented neighbourhood to live in, where a simpler way of life will be possible and will help lead to a prosperous City of Moncton that will rise again.

Le projet de Tayler pivote sur une constellation relationnelle et révélatoire des pratiques à travers le temps. Ici on retrouve une appréciation des collectifs parallèles au système de galleries et de musées durant les années 70’ et leur emploi de matériel imprimé permettant le réseautage des artistes au niveau national et international. En mariant des éléments textuels et visuels, les documents ci-haut mentionnés fonctionnaient à la fois comme information et comme objets d’art.

Tayler détient une maîtrise en bibliothéconomie et sciences de l'information de L’Université McGill et un baccalauréat en arts visuels de l’Université Concordia. Sa recherche, ses écrits et sa pratique artistique examinent les arts visuels comme échange d’information et regarde la fonction des publications initiées par des artistes en tant que circuits de communication. Elle a contribué à la publication intitulée Documentary Protocols (1967-1975) et elle présentera une exposition du projet réalisé à Imago au Musée des Beaux-arts du Canada bibliothèque et archives en 2010.

A constellation of relationships and revelatory practices drawn though time. An appreciation of collectives that ran parallel to established museum and gallery systems throughout the 1970s, and their use of printed matter as a means for artists to network nationally and internationally. As hybrids blending visual and textual expression, these documents functioned simultaneously as information and as art.

Felicity Tayler holds a Masters degree in Library and Information Studies from McGill University and a Bachelors in Fine Arts from Concordia University. Her research, writing and artistic practice explores visual art as a means of information exchange, and the function of artist-initiated publishing as a communications circuit. She is a contributing author to Documentary Protocols (1967-1975) and will present an exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada Library and Archives in 2010 including work produced during her residency at Imago.

This residency is made possible through the Canada Council for the arts Piclo program.

Pendant sa résidence à Imago Lyons va créer une série de structures basées sur des monuments industriels et nautiques des provinces atlantiques. Ces sculptures performatives, fabriquées à partir de plaques de cuivre et de zinc, seront peu à peu rongées par l'acide ainsi doucement transformées en ruines. Ce projet examine la potentialité liée à l'obsolescence, soit la notion de l'abandon et la décrépitude à la renaissance ou la mémorialisation.

Colin Lyons détient un baccalauréat en arts visuels du Mount Allison University (2007) et a complété sa première année de maîtrise en estampe au University of Alberta. Ce projet est rendu possible avec l'appui de Third Space Gallery, New Brunswick Museum, St. Michael’s Printshop, le Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, le programme PICLO du Conseil des arts du Canada et l'atelier d'estampe Imago.

During a two week residency at Imago, Colin Lyons will be using zinc and copper etching plates to create a series of sculptures which depict nautical and industrial monuments of Atlantic Canada. Following their completion, these will become performative sculptures, as they are gradually transformed into ruins or eroded in acid. This project investigates the possibilities after obsolescence: from abandonment and decay, to renaissance or memorialization.

Colin Lyons received a BFA from Mount Allison University in 2007, and is currently pursuing a MFA in printmaking at University of Alberta. His work has been shown in recent solo exhibitions at Gallery Lambton (Sarnia, ON), Open Studio (Toronto), TRUCK (Calgary), AKA Gallery (Saskatoon), Skol (Montreal), ODD Gallery (Dawson City, YT), Engramme (Québec), and GRAVE (Victoriaville, QC).

Richard Ibghy et Marilou Lemmens, respectivement originaires de Montréal et des Cantons-de-l’Est, seront en résidence à l'atelier d'estampe Imago du 17 au 23 mai et du 7 au 14 juin. Basé sur le texte, leur projet se développera à travers une série de sérigraphies, une lettre, un téléscripte ainsi que des diagrammes à l’intention de personnes travaillant dans les sciences sociales. Les artistes donneront une présentation de leur travail lundi le 14 juin à 17h30 à Imago. Cet événement est entrée libre et ouvert à tous.

Le duo d’artistes Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens s’intéresse principalement à rendre le language visible. Leur recherche pivote sur la notion de langage comme élément délimitant l’expérience vécue et facteur déterminant dans la construction du soi et de l’autre. Ils s’intéressent aussi au rôle expansif du langage et à son rapport au pouvoir et à l’autorité dans le discours politique, économique et d’autres formes de discours publique. En plus de leur production d’objets d’art et des projets de publications, Ibghy et Lemmens s’intéressent à créer des collaborations artistiques et des échanges discursifs. Ils ont participé à plusieurs expositions solos et collectives au Canada et en Europe et parmi leurs expositions solo récentes l’on retrouve: The New Gallery (Calgary, 2010), VU (Quebec City, 2010), Vernon Public Art Gallery (Vernon, 2010). Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens, from Montreal and the Eastern Townships, will be in residence at Imago from May 17 to the 23 and June 7 to the 14. Their text-based project will take the shape of a suite of large format serigraphs, a letter, a telescript, as well as tools developed to assist social scientists An artist talk will be held at Imago on Monday June 14 at 5:30. This event is free and open to all.

As an artistic duo, Richard Ibghy & Marilou Lemmens are primarily concerned with the idea of making language visible. Much of their work stems from an interest in how language circumscribes experience and is used in constructing the self and the other. They are also interested in language’s expansive role and its relationship to power and
authority in political, economic and other forms of public discourse. In addition to producing art objects and works for publications, they are interested in creating collaborative artistic and discursive frameworks. Together, they have participated in a number of exhibitions in Canada and Europe. Recent solo exhibitions include The New Gallery (Calgary, 2010), VU (Quebec City, 2010), and Vernon Public Art Gallery (Vernon, 2010). They have also presented their work at Gallery Atsui (Vancouver, 2010), Western Front (Vancouver, 2009), European Media Art Festival (Osnabrück, 2009), Labor K1 (Berlin, 2007), Owens Art Gallery (Sackville, 2007), Helen Pitt Gallery, Belkin Art Gallery, Belkin Satellite (Vancouver, 2007), and Trafó House of Contemporary Art (Budapest, 2004).

“Our residency at Imago will be a continuation of our research on social language and the invention of methods and instruments permitting the expression between desires and values in economically oriented social actions. We will look at phenomena defined by corruption, power shifts and expansions without ever dealing specifically with the social or the individual. More precisely, we will investigate the notion of golden rules which hold no authority per se but are used as slogans to steer social behaviors.”

Le 14 février, donnez à votre amour le cadeau parfait : de l' ART.

Les billets sont maintenant en vente pour la campagne de financement annuelle Art en Boîte de l'atelier d'estampe Imago. Cette activité permet à l'atelier d'acquérir et mettre à jour ses équipements et installations. Une vingtaine d'artistes participant font dons d'oeuvres qui sont placés dans des boîtes de pizza. Le détenteur de billet reçoit un numéro correspondant à une boîte. Le détenteur est ensuite invité à se joindre à la foule et échanger l'oeuvre reçu s'il le désir. Art en Boîte permet également aux gens de visiter l'atelier, voir et acheter des oeuvres d'artistes locaux, en plus d'observer des artistes estampiers à l'oeuvre. Cette année, Art en Boîte a lieu dimanche le 14 février au Centre Culturel Aberdeen, de 17h à 22h00.

Tickets are now on sale for Imago's annual fundraiser Art en Boîte. This event enables the printshop to purchase and update much needed equipment. Twenty participating artists generously donate work that is randomly placed in pizza boxes. The ticket holder receives a number which corresponds to a box. The ticket holder is then encouraged to mingle in the crowd and exchange its contents if so desired. Art en Boîte is a chance for people to visit the printshop, see and purchase local work by local artists and watch printmakers in action. Art en Boîte will take place on Sunday February 14, at the Centre culturel Aberdeen from 5pm until 10pm.

Tickets are $35 and are available at the Imago print studio, through its members and at the Café Aberdeen. Contact Jennifer at 388-1431 for more details.

Imago est un centre de production voué au développement et à la diffusion de l’estampe contemporaine. Le centre offre un lieu de recherche, un atelier fonctionnel aux artistes estampiers et une programmation qui reflète les tendances actuelles en estampe. En vue de promouvoir et diffuser la création artistique dans le domaine de l’estampe actuelle, Imago a mis sur pied une exposition de miniatures intitulée Lilliput. Ce projet, qui voyage dans une valise, se rendra à plusieurs lieux à travers le Nouveau-Brunswick.

L'atelier d'estampe Imago inc. is an artist-run print shop that provides research facilities and a full-fledged workshop for contemporary print artists. In order to promote and disseminate the work of artists in the field of contemporary printmaking Imago has put together a travelling show of miniature works on paper. This project, which travels in a suitcase, will visit different regions in New-Brunswick (see above).

Linda Rae Dornan de Sackville, sera en résidence à l’atelier d’estampe Imago du 24 novembre au 7 décembre. Travaillant principalement en performance et en installation sonore et vidéo, Dornan se retourne vers l’estampe pour expérimenter avec les plaques polymères Oméga. Son projet est basé sur des extraits de textes qu’elle a écrit quelques années passées sur le soin de personnes atteintes de démence.

Dornan donnera une présentation de son travail à Imago Lundi le 7 décembre à 17h15. Entrée libre et tous sont les bienvenus.

Working primarily in performance, video and sound installation, Dornan’s “practice has used language both visually and orally for many years. [...] Her work is about interior spaces and processes of being, employing language, the body, memory
and loss.”

Dornan is revisiting printmaking to explore Omega polymer plates for her text-based work consisting of excerpts from her writings about dementia and caregiving.

Dornan will give an artist talk on Monday December 7 at 5:15 at Imago. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Moncton, 6 octobre 2009- Du 14 au 18 octobre 2009, la Galerie Sans Nom et l’Atelier d’estampe Imago vous invitent à découvrir des pratiques qui se manifestent à l’extérieur des conventions et des lieux traditionnels de l’art. jè-st’: festival d’art performatif et d’intervention verra l'art se produire dans le paysage urbain en vue de surprendre la routine quotidienne et encourager le questionnement chez l'observateur. Une douzaine d’artistes du Nouveau-Brunswick et du Québec participent à l’événement en présentant des projets conçus pour être aménagés dans l’environnement urbain de Moncton

Le collectif SYN – atelier d’exploration urbaine (Québec), propose Conversation sur la ville, lors duquel les artistes discutent avec les passants dans un « salon ambulant » installé dans divers lieux.

Amanda Dawn Christie (Nouveau-Brunswick) cherche à capter les ondes radio au moyen d’un évier branché à des tuyaux en laiton, reproduisant le phénomène qui se manifeste dans certaines vielles maison de la région.

Jean-Denis Boudreau (Nouveau-Brunswick) propose une installation monumentale flottant dans le ciel nocturne au dessus de Moncton.

Marie-Suzanne Désilets, Denis Lahaie et Geneviève Rousseau (Québec) transforme le pont piéton du Parc riverain en une installation festive.

De plus, jè-st’ accueille un projet en tournée du centre d’artistes de Chicoutimi Espace virtuel intitulé Trafique Maritime. Cette soirée de performances mettra en vedette le travail de Francis O’Shaughnessy, Stéphane Boulianne, Étienne Boulanger et Claudine Cotton et aura lieu vendredi 16 octobre dans la grande salle du Centre culturel Aberdeen à 19h

Le duo amoureux Geneviève et Matthieu (Québec) suivra avec une performance qui mélange les arts plastiques, la poésie, la musique et l’humour en toute désinvolture.
Des conférences d’artistes auront lieu mercredi, 14, et jeudi,15 octobre, à 12h15 à la Galerie d'art Louise et Reuben-Cohen de l'Université de Moncton. Également, une causerie d’artistes facilitée par Jean-Pierre Caissie aura lieu le vendredi 16 octobre à partir de 12h15 à la Galerie d'art Louise et Reuben-Cohen de l'Université de Moncton.

performance and intervention art festival will bring to view work from over twelve artists who disrupt daily routine and incite curiosity through their insertion in the urban landscape.

The artist collective, SYN – urban exploration workshop (Quebec), puts forward a travelling outdoor living room that fosters dialogue between the artists and passersby.

Amanda Dawn Christie (New Brunswick) presents The Marshland Radio Plumbing Project, a site specific radio sculpture performance in which the artist attempts to play radio broadcasts on a common kitchen sink. This project is inspired by reported stories of strange household devices picking up and playing radio signals.
Jean-Denis Boudreau (New Brunswick) uses artifice in his large-scale re-creation of a familiar nocturnal landscape.

Marie-Suzanne Désilets, Denis Lahaie and Geneviève Rousseau (Quebec) transform the pedestrian bridge at Riverfront Park into a festive immersive installation.
jè-st’ will also host an evening of performances entitled Trafique Maritime on Friday, October 16, at 7pm on the 3rd floor of the Aberdeen Cultural Centre. This tour organized by the Chicoutimi artist-run centre Espace virtuel showcases the work of Francis O’Shaughnessy, Stéphane Boulianne, Étienne Boulanger and Claudine Cotton

This special presentation will be followed by a performance that combines visual arts, poetry, music and humour by love duo Geneviève et Matthieu.

Running parallel to the artistic manifestations, artist talks will take place at the Galerie d'art Louise et Reuben-Cohen of the Université de Moncton on Wednesday, 14, and Thursday, 15 of October, at 12:15. At this same venue, a round table discussion, facilitated by Jean-Pierre Caissie, will take place on Friday October 16 starting at 12:15. All presentations and activities are free and open to all.

Moncton, le 29 septembre 2009 - L’atelier d’estampe Imago propose l’intégration de l’art contemporain dans le quotidien. L'édition 2009 de l’exposition annuelle plein air invite six écrivains à intervenir sur des panneaux routiers à blanc. L'exposition sera en montre au Parc des Arts du Sommet de la Francophie du 29 septembre au 15 octobre.
L'atelier d'estampe Imago inc. est un centre de production voué au développement et à la diffusion de l’estampe contemporaine. Le centre offre un lieu de recherche, un atelier fonctionnel aux artistes estampiers et une programmation qui reflète les tendances actuelles en estampe. Imago’s annual outdoor show on road-signs

Moncton, September 29, 2009 - Imago’s annual outdoor show of original prints on road signs showcases different artists each year. The 2009 edition presents the work of six writers. Insert a healthy dose of contemporary art into your daily routine by walking through the Parc des arts du Sommet de la Francophie on St-George street on your way to and from work. The work will be shown from September 29 until October 15, 2009.

L’atelier d’estampe Imago is a non-profit artist-run print studio that provides research facilities and a full-fledged workshop for contemporary print artists. Imago is supported by its members, the Secretariat of Wellness, Culture and Sport of New-Brunswick and the Canada Council for the Arts.

Mandate and General Orientations

This artist-run print shop provides research facilities and a full-fledged workshop for contemporary print artists. Imago is the only artist-run production centre in New-Brunswick and the only francophone production centre outside Quebec. A laboratory space for creation and experimentation, it not only hosts artists in residence, lecturers, workshops and interdisciplinary projects, but attracts artists in all fields to work in contemporary print. Imago dislodges print from its traditional approach and reflects current preoccupations in present-day art. By exhibiting in conventional and non-conventional venues, Imago is helping to promote printmaking as well as the region’s artists. In addition, Imago supports emerging artists through a development scholarship in printmaking awarded annually to a graduating student from Université de Moncton or Mount Allison University in Sackville.

Historical Overview

Imago was established in 1986 and incorporated in 1992 by 11 artists from southeastern New Brunswick: Jacques Arseneault, Gillian Bond, David Bobier, Herménégilde Chiasson, Francis Coutellier, Marie Lucie Crépeau, Daniel Dugas, Will Kelly, Nancy Morin, Ginette Savoie and Barbara Symington. The centre has grown and Imago’s programming and provocative events have made it one of the major institutions for artist development in the region, in the province and throughout Atlantic Canada.

Orientations générales

En plus d’offrir un laboratoire de création et d’expérimentation à travers son programme d’artistes en résidence, ses conférences, ses ateliers et ses projets de création interdisciplinaires, Imago attire des artistes de différentes disciplines explorant l’estampe contemporaine.

Imago établit ces échanges en vue de libérer l’estampe contemporaine de son approche traditionnelle et la situer dans les courants de l’art actuel. Discipline souvent conservatrice et bi-dimensionnelle, le travail des membres de l’atelier a le souci de sortir du cadre poussiéreux en explorant les avenues créatrices qu’elle offre par le biais de l’installation, le paper engineering et la recherche de nouveaux supports. Au moyen d’expositions dans les lieux et des non-lieux d’art actuel , Imago sort de ses murs et promouvoit l’estampe et les artistes de la région à l’échelle régionale, provinciale et nationale.
